'pieces of life' series 2010

"The textures, layers and objects in these paintings were inspired by the renovation of our 1890's row house in Baltimore. The items in the house were packed up, the plaster was taken down and the original skeleton of the house that had been hidden for decades was exposed.

Old paint, wallpaper and hand hewn lumber were bisected by pipes and wires. Colors were scraped off and new ones added. Then, when unpacking after construction, I found objects that I had collected for years, for no other reason except that their shape, feel and textures intrigued me. I combined them with paintings I had started in my studio.  One completed the story of the other."
